Long time since I last time wrote a journal here. A lot has happened lately. I quit my full-time job to establish a completely own agency, Buena, here in Helsinki with 5 former colleagues. Since the site is only in Finnish at the moment here's a little description about us:
"We craft high-quality web solutions.
Every website has its own goals. We make hand crafted solutions for each customer's unique purposes. Content, visual and technical solutions are made for one and only purpose. To work in balance, to reach the targets and finally to increase your business. Don't hesitate to contact us. We'll gladly help you figure out what You need to do in the digital world."
"Evoke welcomes you to take a "Voyage" with us as we showcase a variety of images and music that wanders through the imagination. "Voyage", Evoke's 23rd release, is filled with work from over 30 talented artists and musicians from across the world.
Tony Rivera, our featured artist for this release has taken us to envisioned scenes from other galaxies, with impressive detail and vibrancy. James Merrill and Parker Gibson have interpreted the theme with vivid abstract work, while newcomers such as Adrián Romero have produced high quality vector work.
Get yourselves belted in and prepare for a trip across time and space!"
I noticed I had saved quite bunch of WIPs and thought it could work well as my first case study. So if anyone is interested seeing the work process for my second latest s3 submission, you can see it here [link]
I haven't been really active here in dA lately but that's mostly because of summer holidays. Now I'm getting back to normal day rhythm and finally finished and launched my new portfolio with some unseen projects (mostly client stuff).
A monumental release. One full year in the making. AGE doesn't represent merely another step down the same path; on the contrary it is an exhibit expressively characterizing the paradigm shift within the collective. All the pent up energy, the motive force behind the recent changes in our group were channeled simultaneously into one hundred of the most drop dead gorgeous works we've ever produced.
From the psychedelic abstract works of James Merril, to the energetic scenes captured by our featured artist Aaron Campbell, to the sublime photographs of Linus Leandersson, you're in for a visual feast accompanied by the ambient soundscapes of our audio director, Keith Alban, and many other Evoke musicians. Bring the colors, bring the noise, bring on the new age!

Alot has been happening lately so I thought I share these in this journal.
Biggest news would be that I'm turning back into full-time freelancer. My full-time job at the agency ended so I'm now going to enjoy the summer and work only on freelance projects before I start finding full-time jobs. I haven't had basically any kind of summer vacation in 3-4 years so now I think I deserve one...But maybe if I get some VERY interesting offer I might skip it
Well anyways this means totally new portfolio with ALOT of new works. Ofcourse now I have time to produce more personal stuff but I'll be also releasing client works done with the agency and which I haven't shown to public anywhere before.
I was featured at Computer Arts magazine couple months ago among other Finnish creatives in "Finland Focus" article. It was my first appearance in CA so it was nice
I had 4 pages interview in Taiwanese dpi magazine's April issue. Haven't got the magazine yet but it should be there.
I made to the finals in UUTheory competition and the voting ends on 10.5. so if you like my design, would be cool if you can vote it. Check the design HERE. You find the links for voting in the description.
There has been people asking me how I did one of my favorite works called Unique. Well now there's a tutorial written by me on the latest .psdmagazine about the making process. You can find it from HERE
I know I have told I have couple works ready but haven't been able to release them yet. Well the situation is still the same except there are 3 new works ready And I REALLY hope I can publish them next week the latest...
Ps. If you're interested working with me on some projects don't hesitate to contact me via mail contact[at]ouwenz.com
I was asked to be part of The 2010 Exhibition Calendar so here's a little promo:
"This calendar consists of artwork from some of the best of digital artists from all over the world. These digital artists contribute to DEPTHCORE collective, the KDU, EvokeOne, Desktopography and many other new wave collective groups.
They also have an impressive list of clients including big players such as HP, Mazda, Orange, Comcast, Rebock, Nike, Orange County Choppers, Google, Microsoft, Motorola, Absolut, ESPN, Puma, Vans, AMP Energy, Honda, Ford, Audi ,Maui Jim, Virgin, Starbucks, Ericsson, Smith-Micro and that's just to name a few.
These artists have been featured in important magazines like Advanced Photoshop, Photoshop User, Computer Arts Projects and Photoshop Creative.
Each month features a different artist and a different style.
Use the calendar this year and keep the prints as a collector's items forever.
I just realized I've reached 40000 pageviews and today I also got my 1000th watcher here on dA Huge thanks to everyone who has supported me and my art during these years in here, it means alot to me
In my last journal I talked about incoming online interviews, so here they are: [link] and [link]
There's also print feature/interview on the upcoming/current(?) dpi magazine (if someone knows if it's out already, please let me know)
Slashthree released their new art exhibition called "Steampunk", so if you haven't seen it already be sure to check it out -> [link] I made one submission for the pack. You can also see it in here -> [link] and with some detail shots -> [link]
I haven't updated my journal in a long time. Well now I'm here, new portfolio has been finally updated, new layoyt with latest works and all...4 more art pieces are in progress. Some of them are really experimental pieces but some are something like my earler pieces....If you liked 'It Wasn't Me' you'll like this one ...so stay tuned Also 2 interviews coming, i'll keep you updated
A smaller but fiestier pack than usual, Spectrum is Evoke's 21st release and our commemoration of our 4th anniversary (one month belatedly!) All Evokers busted a nut this time around to ensure only the highest quality pieces got into this celebration of color and beauty.
~berthjan is our featured artist this time around, consistently cranking out top notch works for Evoke releases. Go show him some love!
Evoke v5 is in the works as well. This is not just a facelift - it is a game changer. Expect many new features for members and non-members alike, as well as several moves to bring Evoke "beyond" the net. Stay tuned!
In the works for about four months, Mixtape represents a new and stylish deviation from the usual expected of Evokers. An extremely music centric release, Mixtape delivers stunningly on all fronts. Big ups to Keith Alban (brainst0rm) for really upping the bar in the Evoke music section in his debut release.
Congratulations as well to James Merrill, aka dshPls ( ~toThePixel ) for his long standing contribution to the Evoke community. It is with great honor that we have chosen him as a featured artist for this historic twentieth release.
Decided to submit some of my web interface stuff which have kept me busy lately. These are just to show I'm still alive eventho haven't been submitting anything for ages.
I'm starting to make a new portfolio for myself aswell as doing new personal stuff. But there are still my graduation work and client works which slows the process but I'll try to finish the new version before the end of January. I will also publish some personal art with the launch of ouwenz.com version 3. New version will probably be full Flash site.
Oh and just bought Photoshop CS4 extended and I love it
I was interviewed for the Templates.com blog, so if you want to read something about me, go and check it out -> [link]
Also Slashthree released its 8 pack called '30th century', check it out aswell -> [link]
I didn't have time to make anything for it because of client stuff. And for the same reason I apologize for not answering to your comments on my works here in dA. I highly appreciate your support and I'll try to answer to all of the comments someday in the near future.
Today I got my 2nd daily deviation with one of my latest works called Unique!
Thanks for this goes to `cosmosue, thank you so much for featuring my work as a daily deviation!!
Other news is that I updated my portfolio with my new works. I have couple quite different projects which I'm not going to release here in dA but they will be in my portfolio. Before adding them I just have to ask the permission from the clients.
And sorry for not being able to thank everyone who has faved my works or added me to their watchlist. (2372 messages pfff) I will try to do it, but before that I wanna thank everyone via this journal! Love you all
